Sodas O'Connor to Orme

O’Connor Bros.-
The O’Connor Bros. were liquor dealers in Providence. Dennis O’Connor (1845-1894) was selling liquors on Branch Ave., above Wanskuck in 1875. Hugh O’Connor (1859-1935?) was a sewing machine agent in 1882-83. He was selling liquors at 331 Broadway in 1884-86. He was listed as a clerk in 1889. His brother Patrick F. O’Connor was running a saloon at 307 Broadway in 1889. They were first listed as the O’Connor Bros. in 1890. They were at 307 & 311 Broadway from 1890-1892. Dennis died Nov. 1894. They were at 661-665 Broadway (Olneyville) from 1893-1901. They were just at 661 Broadway from 1895-1920. Partick died Aug. 1913. They were last listed as the O'Connor Bros. In 1915. In 1916 only Hugh was running the company. For a while they were listed in Olneyville. Hugh was listed as an emigration agent in 1921.

Olneyville Mineral Waters-
In 1887-88 the Olneyville Mineral Water Co. was at 938 High St. In 1889-1892 it was at rear 932 High St. In 1894-98 it was at Odd Fellows Sq., jct. Dyer St. and Plainfield St. It was formerly known as the Steere Bros. Edwin B. Steere (1862-1939) was the manager. It was alternatively listed at 4 Dyer Ave. in 1897. In 1899-1906 it was at 292-296 Plainfield St. It was called the Olneyville Mineral Water Co. in 1902, and was at 292 Plainfield St. In 1907 the company became the Olneyville Bottling Co. It was at 292 Plainfield St. In 1907-1912 the Olneyville Bottling Co. was at 292 Plainfield St.

Martin W. O’Neil-
Martin W. O’Neil (1870-1951) was a liquor dealer in Warren, RI. He was listed in 1902-04 as dealing in liquors. It is likely his saloon was called “The Senate”. He was listed as a bottler in 1908-1916. In 1909-1916 he was on North Water St. He ran a lunch pool and bowling alley in 1918 on Market St. He was still listed in 1919 at 59 N. Main St. (could be Water, not main). His lunch & pool were at 440-442 Main St. in 1927.

Orange Cream Bottling Co.-
The Orange Cream Bottling Co. was in Providence. It was likely the successor of the Prophet Spring Water Co. It was incorporated in 1924. It was at 33 Meader St. in 1925-1936. John Marott was the treasurer in 1927-1931. John F. Marotto was the owner in 1930. Pasquale DelVecchio was the owner in 1933-35.
It became the Beta Beverage Co. in 1936.

Orme Carbonating Co.-
Walter J. Orme was a bottler in Providence. He was listed as an apprentice in 1903. He partnered with Robert Turbitt in 1904 to create Turbitt & Orme. This partnership lasted until 1911. Walter then created the Orme Carbonating Co. It was at 60 E. George St. from 1911-18. The address was 74 East George St. in 1919-1936. They were bottling ginger ale in 1922. Fred J. Orme (1880-1943) was the manager in 1923. William A. Orme (1883-1955) was also working for the company that year. Walter moved to Woonsocket in 1917. William A. Orme was the owner in 1918-1934. In 1935 Walter Bruckshaw was the leesee. In 1936 it became the Orme Beverage Co., and was owned by John F. Orme. In 1938 the Orme Beverage Co. (John F. Orme) and the Orme Carbonating Co. (William A. Orme) were listed at the same address.
