Read & Hall-
A Rufus Read (1800-1878?) was listed as
a brewer at cor. Richmond St. and Pine St. in 1849. He was at 74
Pine St. in 1850-55. Rufus C. Read grocer in 1836. He was listed as
a brewer from 1839-1855. Anthony & Hall were at this location in
1856, and Patrick Corbett succeeded them. In 1858 Read & Boomer
were tinsmiths and stove dealers. Rufus died Oct. 1880. There is a
pontiled soda marked Read & Hall, which may be from RI.

Red Fox Ginger Ale Co.-
The Red Fox Ginger Ale Co. was in
Providence. The Red Fox logo was trademarked in Oct. 1921, used
since 1920. The Red Fox Co.
It was a brand sold by the United
States Bottling Co. It was at 450 Branch Ave. 1923-25.
In 1929 the Red Fox Co. was at 462
Branch Ave. It was listed as formerly the U.S. Bottling Co. Myer
Lazow & Abraham Goldberg were the owners in 1929-1930. In 1930
the US Bottling Co. was listed again as bottling Red Fox Beverages.
In 1932 the Red Fox Beverage Co. was at 142 Livingston St. In 1936
the U.S. Bottling Co. was bottling the Red Fox brand. Samuel M.
Gerstein was the manager that year. The company became the Red Fox
Ginger Ale Co. in 1939. Samuel Gerstein and Abraham Goldberg were
the owners in 1939-1945. It was at 142 Livingston St. from
1939-1946. They were also bottling Empire Beverages in 1942-43.
They were at 77 Silver Spring St. in 1948-1961. The company had 19
employees in 1947. It had 25 employees from 1956-1960. Abraham
Goldberg was listed as a partner in 1956. In 1961-1970 the Nugget
Beverages Co. was also at this location. In 1984 David Potter was
the new owner, and a news article said he expected a good year for
the company. The company was in business into the 1980s.

The Rhode Island Bottling Co. was
located in Olneyville (part of Johnston). It was at 46 Tefft St.
Providence in 1896. The Cappelli Bros. were the proprietors. It was
at 158 Spruce St. in 1897. It was at Miller Ave., off Dyer Ave.
(Olneyville) in 1898. That same year it moved to Minerva cor. Ethan
St. Henry Lillo and Gionachino Cippola were the owners. They were
advertising ales, wines, liquors, and mineral waters. In 1899 E.
Nardolillio and Gioachino Cippola were the proprietors. It was at 627
Union Ave. in 1899-1904. This address was in Olneyville.
It was also at 90 Ethan St. in
1899-1903. (intersects Union Ave.). (not in 1904)
It was at 621-627 Union Ave. and 90
Ethan St. in 1905-08. The Silver Lake Bottling Co. was at 81 Ethan
St. in 1913.
