Sodas Natick to Nickel Tone

Natick Bottling Works-
The Natick Bottling Works was located in Natick, RI. Odone Ise (1876-1954) was the proprietor of the company. It appears he immigrated to RI in 1902. He was listed as a bottler in 1909-1911. In 1912 he was given a license to produce ice cream in Natick. The Natick Bottling Co. was first listed in 1911. By 1915 the proprietors were “D.P. & Sons”. This was Domenico Petrarca (1891-1949?), who was listed as a liquor dealer in Natick from 1909-1920. His sons were Ernest and Alderico. He was on Baker St. in 1915. The bottling co. changed to bottling works by 1919. It was at 31 Baker St. in Natick from 1919-1922. They were bottling orangeade in 1922. They were still listed in 1925. It was at 33 Baker St. in 1926-29.

National Bottling Co.-
The National Bottling Co. was located in Providence, RI. It was at 25 Stokes St. in 1925-1933. B. Alexandrowicz was the owner in 1927-1931. In 1931-38 they were also bottling Nu-Icy. They started bottling NuGrape as well in 1934-38. It was at 23 Stokes St. in 1934-35. William Cooke was the owner in 1932-36. Maryann Alexandrowicz and Sophie H. Cooke were the owners in 1934. They were bottling NuGrape and NuIcy in 1936-1943. In 1936 it moved to Cranston and became the National Bottling Works. Sophie Cooke was the ower from 1937-1944. William Cooke was the manager in 1940-44. In 1936-1950 it was at 8 Byron St. in Arlington. By 1952 Edward J. Dybala had bought the National Bottling Co. It was still at the same location, with the National Fruit Juice Co. at 6 Byron St. By 1954 it was the Dybala Bottling Co.

Nectar Bottling Co.-
The Nectar Bottling Co. was located in Providence. It was at 178 Oak St. from 1915-1933. Mahran Mantarian was a bottler boarding at this location in 1915. In 1916-17 Mrs. Agavnie M. Najarian was the proprietor. Mugrditch S. Najarian was the manager in 1918-1920. Sarkis H. and Sarkis M. joined the company in 1920. In 1920 John Dziekiewicz was a grocer at this location. In 1920 it was charged with using bottles from different companies (ex. Puritan Bottling Co.). Arthur and John J. Takian (brothers) were the owners in 1920-22. In 1923 John K. Takian was the owner. In 1925 R.J. Sanderson was the proprietor. John Takias was listed as the owner again in 1927-28. Levon Darlitan was the owner in 1929-1930. Leon Minassian was the owner in 1930. Mrs. Penrose Papazian was the owner in 1931-34. It was no longer listed in 1936 (1932).

New England Bottling Co.-
The New England Bottling Co. was located in Westerly. In 1904 Abram Leibovitz (1873-1945) built a building designed for bottling at 68 Pierce St. The year before he was listed as a junk dealer. He was the proprietor of the company from 1905-1907. It was first listed in 1905. It was at 72 Pierce St. in 1906, and his junk business was at 68 Pierce St.
By 1908 Charles D. Havens bought the company, as his initials appear on the later bottles. The company was at 58 Canal St. in 1908-1915. It was at 72 Canal St. in 1916. It was at 72 Pierce St. Westerly from 1911-1923. Pierce St. became Canal St. in the 1910s. The address from 1916-18 is 72 Canal St. It was at 72 Pierce St. in 1920-22. One directory does not list the company in 1922. That year the Havens Bottling Works is listed at the same address. Oddly the New England Bottling Co. is still listed at 72 Pierce St. in 1927. Havens and New England at 72 Pierce St. in 1928-1929. They were both on Industrial Dr. in 1930. They were at 58 Canal St. in 1931-37.

Nickel-Tone Mfg. Co.-
In 1902 the Nickel-Tone Mfg. Co. was incorporated. It was founded by James S. Barry, Charles L. Baird, and William H. Nicholas. It was at 17 & 19 Mathewson St. in 1902-04. It was at 17 Mathewson St. in 1905-06. It became the Modox Mfg. Co. around 1906.
